Why character counts matter for Meta ads
Meta Ads Manager accepts long text, but it doesn't show all of it. On most placements, text beyond a certain length is hidden behind a "See more" link or cut off entirely, and most people never tap to expand. These recommended lengths aren't rejection limits — your ad will still run — but they show you how much of your message people will actually see.
How to write within the limits
- 1.Write the first line as a complete ad. Assume nobody taps "See more". Your hook and the core of your offer should fit in the visible text.
- 2.Use the headline for the offer or outcome. It sits next to the button, so it should help the click — not repeat the hook.
- 3.Treat Reels and Stories differently. Text overlays the video, so keep it very short and put the key message in the video itself.
- 4.Don't count on the description. Many placements don't show it at all.
- 5.Cut words, not meaning. Remove filler ("really", "amazing", "in order to") before cutting the specific details that make the ad believable.
Emojis, spaces, and line breaks
Spaces and punctuation count toward the length. Emojis usually count as one or two characters, depending on the emoji. Line breaks help readability on phones, but each one pushes text further down — in Feed, a long first paragraph broken into lines may truncate sooner than you expect.

Frequently asked questions
Will Meta reject my ad if it is over these lengths?
No. These are recommended lengths for how much text is shown before truncation, not hard limits. Longer copy still runs, but the extra text is hidden behind "See more" or cut off on some placements.
Does this counter work for Instagram ads?
Yes. Facebook and Instagram ads are both created in Meta Ads Manager and share the same text fields. Choose the Reels or Stories placement for Instagram-style vertical ads.
Where do these numbers come from?
They are based on Meta’s published ad specifications for each placement. Meta updates its specs from time to time, so check the Meta Ads Guide if you need exact current figures.
Is the text I type stored anywhere?
No. The counter runs entirely in your browser, and nothing you type is sent to our servers.
Need copy that already fits these limits?
Ad Copy Writer generates headlines, primary text, and a CTA sized to the platform you pick — write it to fit instead of trimming it after the fact.
