How Facebook ads are read

Facebook ads appear between posts from friends, groups, and creators. Nobody opens Facebook to look at ads, so your copy has to earn attention in about a second — usually with the image or video plus the first line of text. Everything after that line is read only by people who are already interested.

The parts of a Facebook ad, and how long each should be

  • Primary text — the text above the creative. Meta accepts long text but typically truncates it in Feed after roughly 125–150 characters, behind a "See more" link. Treat that first stretch as the whole ad.
  • Headline — the bold line under the image. Commonly cut after about 27–40 characters depending on placement. Use it to state the offer or outcome.
  • Description — an optional line many placements don't show. Don't rely on it.
  • Call-to-action button — chosen from Meta's preset list. Match it to what happens after the click.

Use our Meta Ad Character Counter to check each field against the recommended length for Feed, Stories, Reels, and Marketplace.

What this generator does differently for Facebook

With the platform fixed to Meta, every hook is written to stop the scroll before any detail lands, primary text front-loads the benefit so it survives truncation, and headlines are kept short enough for the space under the image. You choose the campaign objective (sales, leads, traffic, or awareness) and tone; the generator returns three hooks, five headlines, three primary text variations, three CTAs, and a recommended combination.

A three-ad test you can run this week

  1. 1.Run the recommended version as your control.
  2. 2.Duplicate it twice, changing only the hook to the other two hook options.
  3. 3.Keep the creative, audience, and budget identical, and compare after each ad has had a fair number of impressions.

The winning hook tells you which angle your audience responds to. Keep it, then test headlines.

Before your ad goes live

  • Remove any claim you can't prove — results, "best", statistics, guarantees.
  • Avoid copy that implies you know personal things about the viewer (health, finances, and similar), which Meta's advertising standards restrict.
  • Make sure the offer in the ad matches the landing page exactly.

How the generator works

This page runs our Ad Copy Writer with the facebook ads setting pre-selected, so you skip a step. Every field, refine option, and daily limit works exactly the same as on the full Ad Copy Writer. For a field-by-field walkthrough with a worked example, read the Ad Copy Writer: Complete Guide.

Frequently asked questions

Does this Facebook ad generator also work for Instagram ads?

Yes, in the sense that Facebook and Instagram ads are both created in Meta Ads Manager and share the same text fields. If your ad will run mainly as Instagram Reels, use the Instagram Ad Generator instead — it writes for a visual-first placement where the text carries the reason to act now.

How long should Facebook ad primary text be?

Meta accepts long primary text but usually truncates it in Feed after roughly 125–150 characters. Write so the first line works on its own, and put supporting detail after it for people who tap "See more".

Will the generated ad be approved by Meta?

We can’t guarantee approval — Meta reviews every ad against its own policies. The generator is instructed not to invent claims, discounts, or statistics, but you should still check the copy for personal-attribute language, unrealistic promises, and anything that doesn’t match your landing page.

Can I generate ads for a lead form instead of sales?

Yes. Set the objective to Leads and describe what people get in exchange for their details, such as a free sample, a quote, or a guide. The copy will lead with that value exchange rather than the product.
